I ‘m aware this may come across similarly to Jeff Lebowitz, North Carolina’s Tiapan bite survivor, but I want to say I know that snakes are more likely than not, have less intelligence than primates as a whole.
What I observed was: black racers have high curiosity and an excellent vision in comparison to other snakes.
Flicking of the tongue I believe is quite similar to a dog’s bark.
I propose an experiment. Considering the large range of Coluber constrictor and the various locations of homes from members of this society it may be beneficial if we were all were to be on the look out for black racers and when we find them rather than catch them (as I certainly am and have been preconditioned to do since I was a kid). Observe them as a bird watcher would a bird at a feeder and instead of whistling at the bird flick your tongue out in a similar pattern. Black racers are non venomous and their bites are similar to a paper cut.
